About Us
The Indiana County Reading Council is a community-based organization in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, having the primary goal of fostering literacy education in the local community. The group encompasses teachers, reading specialists, administrators, university professors, Indiana University of Pennsylvania graduate and undergraduate students, parents, and anyone who is interested in learning about or promoting literacy. Members are encouraged to participate in activities that connect children and literacy.
The ICRC is involved in numerous activities throughout the year. We assist in the development of a Literacy Day at the Indiana Free Library (http://www.indianafreelibrary.org/), conduct an annual book drive with the Indiana Free Library and the Indiana Gazette (http://www.indianagazette.com/) and participate in the Back to School Bash in August of each year to distribute books to local students in need. ICRC also holds several meetings each year that feature a speaker in an area of literacy.
Finally, the Indiana County Reading Council participates in state-wide, national and international activities through the Keystone State Reading Association and the International Reading Association
